Ariennir y Goethe-Institut yn bennaf gan grantiau gan Weinyddiaeth Materion Tramor yr Almaen ac i raddau llai trwy ffioedd cwrs ac arholiadau Almaeneg swyddogol. Enwyd y Sefydliad wedi'r awdur Almaenig o'r 19g, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mae'r sefydliad yn aelod o'r European Union National Institutes for Culture.
