The 2023 New Zealand Labour Party leadership election was held on 22 January 2023 to choose the next leader of the New Zealand Labour Party. The election was triggered by the resignation of Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Jacinda Ardern, which was announced on 19 January 2023.[1][2]
With Chris Hipkins as the only candidate, he won the election by default. He was confirmed as leader on the afternoon of 22 January, with Ardern's deputy leader Kelvin Davis confirmed as continuing in his role.[3]
