Abigail Anne Davis Spanberger[1] (/ˈspænbɜːrɡər/ SPAN-bur-gər; née Davis; born August 7, 1979) is an American politician and former intelligence officer who served as the U.S. representative for Virginia's 7th congressional district from 2019 to 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, she broke the Republican Party's 38-year hold on the district when she was first elected in 2018 by defeating incumbent Dave Brat. She won reelection in 2020 and 2022. In November 2023, she announced she would not run for reelection and would instead run for governor of Virginia in 2025.
