The People's National Army (PNA) (Arabic: الجيش الوطني الشعبي) is the military of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. It is the direct successor of the National Liberation Army (NLA), the armed wing of the National Liberation Front (NLF), which fought French colonial rule during the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962). It consists of six branches - Land Forces, Air Forces, Naval Forces, Territory Air Defence Forces, National Gendarmerie and Republican Guard.[7]
According to the Global Firepower Index of 2025, the PNA ranks as the 26th most powerful military in the world,[8] and ranks 22nd in defense spending globally.[9] and covers an expansive military arsenal.
