Donald Trump and fascism

Protest sign at a rally in 2018, describing Donald Trump as a fascist

There has been significant academic and political debate over whether Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States and current President-elect awaiting his inauguration as the 47th president, can be considered a fascist, especially during his 2024 presidential campaign.[a] Critics of Trump have drawn comparisons between him and fascist leaders over authoritarian actions and rhetoric. Many of Trump's former or current allies have compared him to fascist leaders such as Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Others have argued that Trump is not fascist but an authoritarian populist, or have accused critics of using the term as an insult rather than making legitimate comparisons.
