Dodeja is commonly used surname by Sindhi Hindus. It is derived by joining two words 'dodu' or 'doda' with 'ja' which is oftenly used suffix in Sindhis.
They are commonly found in northern India mainly in the districts of Sitapur, Lucknow and Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. They are also found in the Pakistani provinces of Sindh and Punjab,though at the time of the partition of India, most of them migrated across the newly created border to independent India. Every Dodejas follow Hinduism and Sindhi culture.
The Dodejas are considered to be the descendants of Seth Sukhu Mal Dodeja, a businessman from Sitapur. Seth Sukhumal was born in Sindh, Pakistan but mostly lived his youth in Sitapur and has a colony named after him because of his good deeds.
