Dutchess County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 295,911.[3] The county seat is the city of Poughkeepsie.[4] The county was created in 1683, one of New York's first twelve counties,[A] and later organized in 1713.[B][5] Dutchess County is part of the Kiryas Joel-Poughkeepsie-Newburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area,[6] which belongs to the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. The county is part of the Hudson Valley region of the state.
