The Free Speech Union (FSU) is a non-partisan British organisation which advocates freedom of speech. The group was incorporated on 20 November 2019 [1] by British columnist Toby Young.[2] The organisation views itself as countering cancel culture, opposing laws that limit free speech, and promoting the right to lawful free speech in the workplace, at university and on social media.

The Free Speech Union has been criticised by some left-wing writers and former student members, who allege that the FSU has a right-wing agenda and that its stated aims are misleading.[3][4] Former Labour MP Tom Harris defended the organisation, pointing to an incremental decline in support for free speech and freedom of the press among illiberal sections of the British left.[5]
