Matt Sherratt is an English professional rugby union coach. He is currently the head coach of Cardiff Rugby who play in the United Rugby Championship competition, and currently Interim coach of the Welsh national rugby union team.[1][2] He had previously been backs coach at the Ospreys[3] and Cardiff Blues.[4] During the 2019–20 Pro14 he took over from Allen Clarke as head coach of the Ospreys on an interim basis alongside Carl Hogg.[5] Previously he had worked in England at Worcester Warriors and Bristol Bears, while he also worked for the Rugby Football Union.[6][7]
Since 2025, Matt Sherratt has served as the interim head coach of the Wales national rugby team[8] following the departure of Warren Gatland[9]. Sherratt, who is also the head coach of Cardiff Rugby, was appointed by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) amid a challenging period for the national team, which had endured a record 14 consecutive defeats, including losses in the Six Nations. A highly experienced coach, Sherratt has held roles with Cardiff, the Ospreys, Bristol Bears, and Worcester Warriors, specializing in backs and attacking play. His appointment comes as the WRU seeks a long-term successor ahead of Wales' summer tour to Japan.
