Nuatali Josephine Nelmes is an Australian politician who served as Lord Mayor of Newcastle from a by-election in 2014 until her defeat at the 2024 local elections.[2] She is the youngest person to ever serve as Newcastle lord mayor.[3] Prior to this she served as Councilor at City of Newcastle since 2008. Nuatali is credited with the transformation of the city over the last decade.[4] In 2025, Nelmes resigned from her position on the City of Newcastle Council, concluding more than 16 years in office.[5]
