The Qatar Museums (QM) Public Art Department is responsible for overseeing the installation of artwork by renowned artists in the public realm in Qatar, creating an artist residency program for young local artists to help them develop their skills,[1] organizing exhibitions featuring international artists and developing an online community of both local and international creative talents. The QM intends to develop Qatar into a world-class cultural destination, notably in modern and contemporary art.[2]
Alongside the aim of increasing the number and visibility of art attractions, Qatar Museums provides material support to local artists, such as Fatma Al Sharshani, showcasing Qatar's history and culture in a bid to enhance the country's art attractions and draw tourists.[3]
According to Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of QM: “Through displaying various forms of art in public space, we aim to inspire local talent and establish an organic connection between art and the local community.”[4]
