Second Trump tariffs

The second Trump tariffs are trade initiatives announced by Donald Trump, the 47th president of the United States, principally in the form of tariffs on imports starting in 2025. Since before becoming president in 2017, Trump has promoted import tariffs to retaliate against countries he believes are "ripping off" the United States. Tariffs were announced against China, Canada, and Mexico, continuing a trade war with China and initiating a trade war with Canada and Mexico despite the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement negotiated by Trump when he was previously president.

The tariffs on Chinese imports went into effect on February 4, 2025; Trump announced that the tariffs on both Mexico and Canada would be paused for one month after the countries countered with their own tariffs and later agreed to take further steps to prevent the alleged trafficking of drugs into the United States after further negotiations.
