Shakhovskoy District (Russian: Шаховско́й райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the thirty-six in Moscow Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,218.88 square kilometers (470.61 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Shakhovskaya.[1] Population: 25,372 (2010 Census);[3] 23,061 (2002 Census);[7] 23,783 (1989 Soviet census).[8] The population of Shakhovskaya accounts for 42.3% of the district's total population.[3]
