Teff (Amharic: ጤፍ), also known as Eragrostis tef, Williams lovegrass,[1] or annual bunch grass,[2] is an annual grass, a species of lovegrass native to Ethiopia, where it first originated in the Ethiopian Highlands.[3][4] It is cultivated for its edible seeds, also known as teff. Teff was one of the earliest plants domesticated. It is one of the most important staple crops in Ethiopia.[3]
It is known by other names, such as Eragrostis tef, Williams lovegrass, annual bunch grass and taf.
