Roy Bateman trained as an entomologist at Silwood Park in IPARC and is interested in crop protection, other aspects of sustainable agriculture and tropical forest biology. Interests include:
- entomology - especially orthoptera, dictyoptera and hemiptera
- integrated pest management - especially pesticide application and entomopathogenic fungi
- south east Asia - especially Việt Nam
- environmental issues: I spend a lot of time in Cát Tiên National Park
