The Footy History forum on BigFooty.com hosts many discussions and attempts to find detailed information on former players.
Each state's historical births/deaths/marriage records can also help, but the level of freely available online info varies by state. Genealogy websites like Ancestry are generally not suitable to use for confirmation, but may offer a lead or direction to search the other sources.
