Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a nice place

Some editors call Wikipedia a dreadful place (w:ru:Википедия:Страшное место[1]). We should declare that it is not a complete definition.

Rare meteorological phenomenon Morning Glory

Wikipedia was not created in order to be a “dreadful place” at all!

Wikipedia is a worthy continuation of the work of enthusiasts and ascetics, such as Sir Berners-Lee (thanks to his disinterestedness[2] we now have the Internet), a wunderkind and an amazing person Aaron Swartz, whom our rude world did not appreciate and literally killed, finally, Jimbo Wales, who gave up the material prosperity expected in his position for the sake of the project which you now find yourself on.

Wikipedia is a unique phenomenon, based on very thoughtful basic rules. It is developing, significant, successfully influencing many important processes of the real world, uniting a huge number of people around the globe.

Wikipedia was conceived as — and should be! — an interesting, pleasant, beautiful, amazing, fantastic, unusual place where all basic knowledge of mankind is collected, where you can find astonishing images and other files, where people from all over the world communicate and where they will most likely help you, and absolutely disinterestedly too.
