William N. Eschmeyer

William Neil Eschmeyer (11 February 1939 –[1] 30 December 2024) also known as Bill Eschmeyer,[2][3] was an American ichthyologist.[1] He is the founder[4] and developer of the database and reference work Catalog of Fishes, hosted by the California Academy of Sciences and available both on-line and in print.[2]

He is Curator Emeritus at California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, California,[5] and Research Associate at Florida Museum of Natural History, Gainesville, Florida.[3] Eschmeyer died on December 30, 2024, at the age of 85.[6]
