Soothren Federal Destrict (Roushie: Ю́жный федера́льный о́круг, Yuzhny federalny okrug) is ane o the aicht federal destricts o Roushie. Its territory lies maistly on the Pontic-Caspian steppe. Its population wis 13,856,700 (62.4% urban) accordin tae the 2010 Census, livin on an aurie o 589,200 square kilometer (227,500 sq mi). On Januar 19, 2010, the federal destrict wis split in twa, wi its umwhile soothren territories formin new North Caucasian Federal Destrict.^[1]
