Assyrians, also known as Syriacs, Chaldeans, are a Christian ethnoreligious group whose origins remain in what is today northern Iraq, northwestern Iran, southeastern Turkey, and more recently northeastern Syria. They claim descent from ancient Assyria, a civilization that once existed in northern Mesopotamia from 2600 BC.
