Bagmati (Nepali: बागमती अञ्चल
Listen (help·info) Bāgmatī Añcal), was one of the fourteen zones of Nepal. It is named after the Bagmati River. Bagmati was in the Central Development Region of Nepal. The zone contained the Kathmandu Valley. The capital was Kathmandu.[1] In 2011 the total population was 3,843,596.[1]
Limestone, talc, zinc, lead and silver are mined and exported from Bagmati.[2] Brown, white and pink marble are also exported.[2] The hill districts around Kathmandu are notorious for human trafficking in young girls.[3] The girls are taken to India where they are sold to brothels.[3]
