Jitan Ram Manjhi (born 6 October 1944) is an Indian politician and a member of the Lok Sabha from Gaya Lok Sabha constituency since 4 June 2024. He has served as the Chief Minister of Bihar from 20 May 2014 to 20 February 2015. He is the founder and member of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), an allied of National Democratic Alliance at national level.[1] He has previously worked in Nitish Kumar's government as the minister for the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Under chief ministers Chandrashekhar Singh, Bindeshwari Dubey, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, Jagannath Mishra, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Rabri Devi, he served as a minister in numerous Bihar state governments.
Since 1980, Manjhi has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Bihar. He belonged to multiple political parties, including the JD(U) (2005–2015), Rashtriya Janata Dal (1996–2005), Janata Dal (1990–1996), and Indian National Congress (1980–1990). After the political turmoil in February 2015, he was expelled from JD(U), and Jitan Ram Manjhi became a prominent Dalit figure in Bihar. He declared the formation of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), a new political party, in May 2015. The Union Home Ministry granted Jitan Ram Manjhi "Z"-plus security cover in July 2015.
