Dame Barbara Mary Quant CH DBE (11 February 1930 – 13 April 2023) was a British fashion designer.[2] In 1963, she won the Sunday Times International Fashion Award, and was chosen as Woman of the Year.[3]

Quant is famous as a designer who invented the miniskirt and hot pants. She was also instrumental in the mod fashion movement,[4] and known for her use of pop art in fashion.

Born to Welsh parents in Blackheath, London, Quant went to Blackheath High School, then studied illustration at Goldsmiths College. Her first employment was as a couture milliner (hat maker).

  4. Mods and Rockers: The Mod movement was antithetical to (opposite, against) the Rocker movement. The Mods and Rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the early-mid 1960s... The rockers adopted a macho biker gang image, wearing clothes such as black leather jackets. The mods adopted a pose of scooter-driving sophistication, wearing suits and other cleancut outfits.
