Montauban (Occitan: Montalban) is a commune in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region in southern France. It is the préfecture (capital) of the department.
The town, built mainly with reddish bricks, is on the right bank of the Tarn river at its confluence with the Tescou. It was one of the first bastides in history.
