Rajiv Ratna Gandhi (/ˈrɑːdʒiːv ˈɡɑːndiː/ (
listen); 20 August 1944 – 21 May 1991)[1] was the seventh Prime Minister of India. He served as prime minister from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the 1984 murder of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, his mother. He became the youngest Indian prime minister.
Gandhi remained Congress President until the elections in 1991. While campaigning for the elections, he was murdered by a suicide bomber.[2] He was 46 years old.[3]
