Threads is an social media microblogging service. It was developed and owned by Meta Platforms.[1] The was started on July 6, 2023.[2] Threads reached 30 million users.[3][4][5][6] It is similar to Twitter.

Threads works "adjacent" to Instagram, users need to have an Instagram account and use their Instagram login details.[7] When Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, Meta workers talked about the creation of "Instagram Notes", a text-based feature of Instagram. They also talked about creating a separate and text-focused app, that helped create the idea of Threads.[8]
