William Vernell Wood Sr. (December 23, 1936 – February 3, 2020) was an American football safety for the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL). He was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.[1][2]
Wood died of dementia-related problems on February 3, 2020 at an assisted living facility in Washington, D.C. at the age of 83.[3] After his death, an autopsy revealed that Wood had been suffering from stage 4 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).[4]
