ด้านใน (medial) ของช่องแครอทิด (carotid canal) ใกล้ ๆ ริมด้านหลังของมันโดยอยู่ข้างหน้าแอ่งคอ (jugular fossa) จะเป็นแอ่งรูปสามเหลี่ยม ที่ยอดของแอ่งรูปสามเหลี่ยมมีช่องเล็ก ๆ คือ cochlear aqueduct หรือ aqueduct of cochlea (aquaeductus cochleae) ซึ่งเป็นส่วนต่อโดยเป็นท่อจากเยื่อดูรา เป็นจุดส่งหลอดเลือดดำจากคอเคลียไปเชื่อมกับหลอดเลือดดำที่คอ (jugular vein) เป็นส่วนเชื่อมช่อง subarachnoid space ที่มีน้ำสมองร่วมไขสันหลัง (cerebrospinal fluid) กับช่องที่เต็มไปด้วยน้ำ perilymph ของคอเคลียอันเป็นส่วนของระบบการได้ยินเข้าด้วยกัน โดยช่องของคลอเคลียก็ต่อเนื่องกับช่องที่เต็มไปด้วยน้ำ perilymph ของระบบการทรงตัวด้วย^[1][2]
