Brad David Schimel (born February 18, 1965) is an American attorney, judge, and Republican politician from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He served as district attorney of Waukesha County. He served as the 44th attorney general of Wisconsin, from 2015 to 2019. He was defeated seeking re-election in 2018, but was subsequently appointed a Wisconsin circuit court judge by Governor Scott Walker.
During his time as attorney general, Schimel advocated for anti-abortion positions[1] and helped lead a coalition of 20 states in filing a lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act.[2] Schimel is seeking election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the 2025 election.
