Rail transport in Bulgaria includes passenger and freight operations over its 4,070 km (2,530 mi) network of mostly 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge railways. It is an important mode of transport in Bulgaria. Its infrastructure is owned by the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC),[1] and services are operated, among others, by the Bulgarian State Railways (BDŽ).[2]
